"I took the a manuscript from the slag heap (unsolicited submission) and looked at it, saying: Show me why I shouldn't reject this! then I turned to the first page." IS YOUR WORK STRONG ENOUGH TO PASS THE SHOW ME TEST? IS YOUR WORK STRONG ENOUGH TO PASS THE AUTHENTICITY TEST?
"I tossed the manuscript in the round file after reading that a pilot severely injured his leg in a plane crash, but in the next chapter didn't even have a limp!" IS YOUR WORK STRONG ENOUGH TO PASS THE CONSISTENCY TEST?

The main female, who was tough and beligerent throughout the story, relying on her own ability and rejecting any and all help, suddenly at the end turned into a creampuff in the arms of the hero. Do writers really think that type of reversal without explanation will fly?" IS YOUR WORK STRONG ENOUGH TO PASS THE BELIEVABLE TEST?

Write Like the Pros is a consortium of published authors and readers who have been writing and evalulating writing, in some cases, for over thirty years, and with multiple published works. Their background includes books, short stories, and screen- and stage plays, with subjects covering a wide range of interests, from modern hi-tech works, to comic and romance, military, westerns and science-fiction. Some of these authors have also written non-fiction, scientific works and religious chronicles. The material contained in this website and offered by Write Like the Pros, is the experience of these authors and readers and presented to help the new or fledgling writer, and even the experienced writer, with helps and aids to enhance his or her writing ability and increase the chance of becoming published.
Unlike other material published and on the Web offering help to the writer, no effort here is made by Write Like the Pros, to teach writing, or provide guidelines in which story or characters should be considered. We deal with no plots or mechanics of writing--just the writing itself! Consequently, Write Like the Pros provides actual enhancements to writing, with drag and drop CDs covering several subjects, fifty-two in all, that the writer can actually use to either insert or rewrite and include in his or her writing. Much like a dictionary or encyclopedia with actual usable examples, the CD subjects include material of current value, from glossary explanations of technical information, to size, shape and movement of equipment and people, to descriptions of people, emotions, feelings, thoughts, actons, and appearances.
Write Like the Pros is dedicated to providing actual and usable sequences that can be inserted into an author's writing, or used to provide important examples of such things as behavior, dialogue, descriptions and actions, that are both includable and informative helps. Many of these subjects are extremely valuable to the fiction writer who wants to include his story line or a character from an area of the world he or she has never visited. Write Like the Pros can provide actual descriptive sequences that will convince even the native that you have actually been there to write about it.
Write Like the Pros began as an idea in the mid-1960s when the first of our consortium authors sent in his first manuscript. Initially turned down with a typical rejection slip, two months later the publisher called up and wanted the manuscript re-submitted. A month later it was purchased and eventually published. Following that there were several rejections of other manuscripts until a second book was published four years later. During that time, this author began to research what it was that kept his works from being accepted by publishers and what it was that caused them to be purchased and published. Over the years he put together lists of items of importance from this reserch which was gleaned from the writings of successful authors, from talking with new and published authors, talking to numerous agents, and meeting with publishers and editors. (One meeting was over a private dinner in his own California home with an owner of a New York publishing company). Not only did the information lead to his being published numerous times since, but eventually to the formation of this consortium called Write Like the Pros.
Today you can benefit from this information at a fraction of its worth. Some nearly forty years in the making, the sequence information is in usable and insertion format, with subjects that can be purchased on CDs, matching those areas the writer needs help in and tailored specifically for his area of interest. This mix and match system of obtaining subjects is both cost-effective and time intuitive.
